A Brief News from the Pews - September 8, 2005

Dear Friends in Christ

Just a brief News from the Pews for you all - we are getting back up to full speed, and then some, here in Beulahland!
  • Tonight (Thursday, Sept 8) at 7:30 is the Memorial Service in memory of Heeja Han's father, Hyun Chang Han (pronounced "hun" as in "hundai" cars, "chahng" with a soft "ah" as in "ahhhhhhh" like you say at the doctor's office, and "han" again like the "ah" at the doctor). Heeja could not travel home to Korea for the funeral service, so we are having one here - thanks to Linda Denny for suggesting this!
  • This Saturday, September 10 at 10:00 AM in the Fireside room is the Presbyterian Women - PW - General Meeting, led by the Rev. Heeja Han, our Director of Cross Cultural Ministry.  Heeja helps each year to translate and edit the Horizons Bible Study into Korean, and so is very familiar with this material.  All women are invited - and for some this will also be their first Circle meeting of the year.
  • This Sunday - September 11 (!), 2005 is Rally Day, and our theme is Formed in the Faith.  And what a Rally Day this will be:
    • A Worship Service at 8:30
    • A Rally Day Breakfast at 9:30 - Pancakes and Sausage - in the Gym.
    • A short Sunday School time for youth and children in various Sunday School rooms, at 10:00
    • An Adult Gathering at 10:10 in the Fireside Room to hear about the Adult Sunday School and Wednesday Night Program offerings for Adults this "year."
    • A Worship Service at 10:30 - including Bibles for our 3rd graders and Commissioning of our Sunday School teachers.
  • Both Worship Services will feature Carl and Judy Elmer of "Mold Me Ministries" - a ministry these two have formed, using clay and a potter's wheel to help demonstrate how God, the Master Potter, shapes our lives into what God wants us to become.  We will also use our screen and camera to help folks in back pews of the sanctuary to see what is happening up in the front chancel area.  This is a Rally Day program you will not want to miss - at both the 8:30 and 10:40 services.
  • Then - if this were not enough, we have our usual First Sunday of the Month meetings (delayed one week due to Labor Day) this Sunday, September 11:
    • Personnel Committee meeting at 2:00 - Memorial Room
    • Council at 3:00 - Fireside Room
    • Special Meeting of Session 3:30 to consider property use by the Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries  - Fireside Room
    • Commissions at 4:00 - with our group devotional in the Fireside Room

  • Then we all get to go home and crash!
  • Please also be aware of these prayer concerns
    • For Phyllis, Terry Hargrave's mother, who is recovering from heart surgery (Terry in SC with her family, and may not be back here for Rally Day - and Beulah Buddies may or may not meet - stay tuned).
    • For the family of Carla Wood, particularly her brother, John Holmgren, upon the death of his son and Carla's nephew, Jared John (JJ), who was 32 years old in Ohio last week.
    • For June Priest, in Suburban Hospital, dealing with some infection and adjustment in heart medication
    • For Tom Stokes, recovering from surgery to set a broken leg
    • For all those - the thousands - struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
    • For others facing struggles over their health, their employment situation, and other need
    • For Lorene Matthews, upon the death of her 42 year old nephew, Michael Lane, from a heart attached last week.
    • For Ray Sherley who is struggling with lymphodema (swelling in his legs).
Hope to see you maybe a few times in the next few days.  I remain,
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Ken
