A Happy “Fat Tuesday” to you and yours!

The Hockenberrys were planning to celebrate Fat Tuesday by having supper
tonight at the Bob Evans Restaurant – the one on Hurstbourne.  By now many
have heard the tragic news that took place at the Bob Evans on Preston.  Let
us continue to pray for peace around the world and in the lives of our
neighbors very close to home here in Louisville, especially those who resort
to violence here in our own community.

Some news from the pews in these days;

We begin the Season of Lent tomorrow on Ash Wednesday – worship here will be
at 7:30.

Our Wednesday program will take place tomorrow on Ash Wednesday, but will
end a bit early. More folks have signed up for our light supper – and if you
want to sign up then send an email to Carol.

We continue our prayers for Cliff Stout who remains at Hurstbourne Rehab
Center / Nursing Home.

Also prayers for April Leach as she recovers from knee surgery.

We extend our sympathy and support to Bob Gertz on the death of his mother,
Dora.  The funeral was this past Saturday in Minnesota.

Our CE and Youth Director Terry (along with Judy H) arrived safely back home
on Sunday evening – tired and inspired by what they learned – so stay tuned!

Spence Poole has asked for our prayers for Justin Pouw – a ten year old
grandson of a coworker who was hit by a car and is in serious condition.

I did hear through the church grapevine that Chaplain Bren Bishop will
likely be returning home in the near future.  Please keep Bren, all our
chaplains, and our military personnel in your prayers, even as we continue
to pray for the people of Iraq.

If you happen by the church this week you will notice that Carol and Jeannie
have switched offices.  Jeannie, who is here on Tuesday and Thursday
mornings and early afternoons is in the first office you come to as you turn
into the church offices – and Carol, here full time – is in the next office
back.  This way Carol is a bit closer to my office/study, and is a bit
removed from the higher traffic pattern down the hallway – but is certainly
still accessible to those who need to see her.

We are still looking for some volunteers who can help serve as a
receptionist / greeter during other week day mornings – especially Wednesday
and Friday mornings.  Bill Banks is covering Monday mornings for us now.
Computer skills are not needed, but if you have some, we can find some work
for you to do!

A short list for now – and I hope to see you all on Ash Wednesday as we
begin this season of Lent. Remember Lent is close to the music tempo marking
of Lento – which means slowly, deliberately.  May we all make efforts to
slow down a bit in this season, do some intentional, deliberate pondering of
our faith, and of our own walk with Jesus Christ as living disciples here
and now.

I remain,
Your partner disciple and pastor,
Ken H.
