Dear Ones –

What great Sunday worship experiences for our church family yesterday! We began with worship here at 10:00, and I thought the crowd would be a bit smaller than usual, since we also planned our church worship service and church picnic for Cedar Ridge for 11:30. Well, we had a fantastic number for the 10:00 service – 114 – more than I thought we would. And then at the picnic we had about 80 or so. Great turn outs, and I hope inspiring worship and meaningful times around the Lord’s table (the old oak one here, and the picnic tables at Cedar Ridge!).

Doug Jones and I had to move pretty fast between worship in the Sanctuary at 10:00 and worship at Cedar Ridge at 11:30 – but we made it just in time.

Thanks to all who helped prepare the Lord’s Supper at both locations, and to Jennifer Hagan and the Fellowship and Membership Commission members and other helpers for setting up our church picnic, and thanks to Danny Clements (also on the Cedar Ridge Staff) for serving as our life guard at the pool (which was enjoyed by a lot of our kids). And thanks to God for a beautiful, and not too hot, summer afternoon.

Cedar Ridge is a beautiful location and setting, and we are blessed as a Presbytery to have this facility. Remember you can call to reserve one of the retreat houses, or just stop by and enjoy the setting sometime. Andrew Hartman is the director, my Dad works on the maintenance staff - and you can reach the camp at 267-5848 – and check is all out through the Presbytery website – www.midkentuckypresbytery.org – then click on Cedar Ridge Camp.

Dwayne Rutledge had surgery earlier this morning – and the word looks good at this hour.

Bob Tackett has a biopsy scheduled for tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

Cliff Stout is still in the hospital, and is having a rough time.

Susan Rock is recovering from a spinal tap last week – and there was some rough times at the Rock household due to the storm last week.

Tomorrow morning the bus leaves from Strathmoor church for the 2004 Youth Triennium at Perdue University in Indiana, and a number of our high schoolers are going, plus advisors Terry Hargrave and Jane Flanigan.

Wednesday at 5:30 in the morning (ugh!) our Middle Schoolers are traveling to Presbyterian College in South Carolina for the Middle School Youth Conference (sponsored by Montreat), plus advisors Judy Hockenberry and Jim and Terry Watson.

Al Greene, Diane Adams, Marie Fledderman, Nancy Leach, Evelyn Vaughn, and yours truly are traveling to Greensburg later this morning for our Presbytery meeting. Greensburg is on central daylight savings time, so it will take us 1 hour to get there and 3 hours to get home (for about a 2 hour trip). The meeting itself is among our lightest, and it is a beautiful day to travel in the country.

Lots of people and situations for our prayers this day and this week – a day and week that I pray brings you opportunities to “do” the faith, and opportunities also to “be” the faith that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord (see the sermon text of Luke 10:38 – and then soon, the sermon on the website). I remain, as always,

Yours in Christ,

Ken H.
