Dear Friends,

Just a quick Monday morning update on a few of our friends.

Kelley Adams was able to go home from the hospital on Sunday afternoon after her back surgery! She’ll be recovering at home for a few weeks and then back to school with a gradual return to all activities – but very gradual. It will be 9 to 12 mos before she can play field hockey again. Please continue to keep Kelley and her family in your prayers. Kelley is the granddaughter of Vernon and Donna Stout, the great-niece of Joy Straub, a cousin of Amy and Nathan Chappell and Linda Zabenco, and the daughter of Marcia and Billy Adams. How’s that for connections?

Lucille Mattingly is struggling with pneumonia and Marian Caudill is struggling with high blood pressure. Please keep both of these faithful saints in your prayers.

About 36 members of the church attended The Passion of the Christ had Saturday afternoon at 5 pm. We gathered in the Fireside Room for pizza following the movie and had some light discussion and conversation about the movie. I believe that everyone would agree that it is “intense”. Other than that, some hated it, some liked parts of it, others found the whole thing intensely moving.

We had our regular Session meeting yesterday afternoon at 3:30 pm – we talked with Diane Adams about her hopes for ministry and the ministry in which she is currently involved. Diane is a candidate under the care of our Session. We also heard from Betty Adams and Keith Clements regarding work on a New Church Development that is being done in Mt. Washington area. We approved two baptisms (Beau Bradley and Michael Adams), heard a report on our Yard Sale that yielded over $1100, and a report on the Wednesday evening programs. We voted to allow Ken Hockenberry to take one week of study leave beginning March 14. This is in line with his contract. We also voted to use any money left over from Wednesday night suppers to purchase pizza for the last Wednesday night supper. The time of Session will be changed to 2 pm on Sunday afternoons in the odd-numbered months (like May, July, September, etc.)

We had 222 in both worship services on Sunday morning. We celebrated the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and our offering was close to $11,000. You can see the exact numbers in next week’s bulletin announcements!

Don’t forget about the potluck supper and movie night here at church on Friday, March 12 – sponsored by the Fellowship and Membership Commission.

Also coming up is the Gala for the Fern Creek Highview United Ministries that will be held on Saturday, March 13th – call Eleanor Young for more information – AND the Presbyterian Men’s Breakfast with guest speaker Andrew Hartmans that will be held in the Fireside Room at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 20th.

Are your calendars and your prayer lists full enough, yet? Seriously, may blessings fill your week. That ends the news for Monday morning, March 8th.

Blessings, Judy
