Dear Friends,

Please keep Deb Sexton in your prayers as she underwent emergency hand surgery yesterday afternoon. While cutting a tomato at work on Friday, she did serious damage to her hand cutting tendons and possibly a nerve. The surgery was yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon at the Hand Care Center in New Albany – this is an extension of Jewish Hospital.

Melinda Blake Smith is anticipating surgery on Friday. At this time it appears that it will be outpatient surgery. However, if there are complications a more complete surgical procedure will be done necessitating some overnights in the hospital. Please keep Melinda in your prayers.

Joel Tackett remains scheduled for his surgery on February 3rd. One of our preschool teachers is also anticipating surgery. Please keep all in your prayers.

Bob Metzger’s father was released from the hospital to a nursing home that is very close to his home. This makes it easy for his wife to visit. Please continue to keep the entire Metzger family in your prayers.

Theresa Billingsley is doing well. We had a great outpouring of support for a lift chair and Theresa will soon be able to get that settled. She was deeply moved by the compassion and support of her church. She continues to struggle with pain and with some normal depression. Please don’t hesitate to send her a card or note. If you want to call her, I do have a cell phone number. She keeps the cell phone with her all day. Give me a call if you want that number. Her address for cards is 1244 S. Fourth Street in Louisville. Some of you have asked about Theresa’s military service. She did 1 year of active duty and 14 years of duty as a reservist in that army. She never had to go overseas. Her service was all in the state.

We learned just today that Betty Adams has been hospitalized. Betty is the mother of Diane Adams. She is at Suburban Hospital with pneumonia. Betty’s usual residence is the Episcopal Home. Please keep Betty and Diane in your prayers.

Rudell Nunn joined our congregation by letter of transfer a few years ago. Rudell has been a resident at the Health Care Center at Westminster Terrace since he joined our church. He has struggled with advancing Alzheimer’s. Rudell died quietly in his sleep early yesterday (Tuesday) morning. Shannon Meacham and I had the joy of celebrating communion with Rudell just before Christmas. Arrangements are still pending as the children are out of town. Owens Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Rudell is survived by his wife, Bonnie, who is also a member and resident of the health care facility at Westminster. They have a son and a daughter, several grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. For Rudell the pain and struggle have ended and he has entered his eternal reward. For his family the grief is just beginning. Please keep them in your prayers.

Ash Wednesday is February 25th and we are doing some serious planning for extra Bible study and other learning opportunities during the season of Lent. We are going to have some extended Wednesday evenings for Bible study and youth programming as well as ongoing choir and bells. I’m wanting to schedule a daytime study opportunity as well. So . . . would your prefer breakfast or lunch? Mid-morning or mid-afternoon. If you’re interested let me know what works for your schedule. I’m seriously considering using The Purpose Driven Life for the daytime and evening studies.

That’s the news from your pews. Blessings, Judy
